Things That Are 'Cool' in i5/OS V5R3
Larry Bolhuis, Vice President of Technology for Arbor Solutions, has had the chance to put the new release of i5/OS through some
paces. As a member of the iSeries technical certification test board, he has been running V5R3 on an 810 at his home office
for some time. Here is a list of the things he feels are interesting and important enhancements to the new release.
- Enhancements to Save While Active. This should get many more folks to actually be able to use it!
- Real time Virus Scanning support for the IFS. While not affected by viruses, the iSeries can be a carrier, this allows us
to prevent even being a virus carrier.
- Daylight Savings time! Yes OS/400 can now change the clocks automatically each spring and fall!!
- Cross site Mirroring (XSM). This support allows an ASP on one system to be mirrored to an ASP on another system located
remotely.
- Support for Linux on an IXS and IXA. This will allow software that has not been ported to POWER to run on iSeries with the
same support for disk and device sharing.
